故事发生在 2036 年。
于核战争摧毁了地球二十五年后，数千幸存者们仍旧在莫斯科的废墟之下的地铁隧道（Metro）中艰难求生。
他们在被毒害的环境下艰难求生，和突变的野兽以及超自然的恐怖进行战斗，还经历了内战的战火。
但现在，你将扮演 Artyom，必须领导一群斯巴达游骑兵（Spartan Rangers）逃离地铁隧道，踏上一段不可思议的横跨大洲的旅途，穿越末世的俄罗斯，向东而去，寻找新生活。
