Marvel’s Midnight Suns guide: The top 12 coolest things to do in the campaign

Our guide takes a look at some of the coolest things you can do in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. We discuss various abilities and teammate roles, as well as secrets you'll discover as you explore.
Build a proper deck so you can eliminate multiple foes in a single turn
Characters in Marvel’s Midnight Suns utilize ability cards during battles. This also means that you have to manage a limited number of card plays/actions and redraws. Fortunately, you’re given a lot of flexibility when building your deck of cards, many of which have beneficial effects.
Cards with the “Quick” effect are extremely valuable, since they don’t cost a card play action if you knock out (KO) an enemy. Combined with “Knockback” and “Draw” effects, you can defeat multiple targets while acquiring additional cards for your hand. The idea is to take out as many enemies as possible in a single turn. That way, you can be ready for Hydra, Lilin demons, and Fallen-type boss reinforcements that appear at the start of the next round.

Choose a team of superheroes based on their roles or affiliation
One of the coolest things you can do in Marvel’s Midnight Suns is build up a three-person team that suits your preferences. For instance, some characters—such as Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Wolverine—can be classified as tanks, and you might want one of them in your squad to get the attention of hostiles. All the while, support and hybrid allies—characters that require intricate setups like Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Scarlet Witch—can prepare a string of abilities on their next turn. Similarly, you can choose to combine characters that belong to a particular group, like the members of the X-Men (i.e. Wolverine, Storm, and Magik).
Max out the Hunter’s Light or Dark alignment
The Hunter is the most versatile hero in the entire group due to their ability to fully harness cards with the Light or Dark alignment. This affinity can be increased when you utilize Light or Dark abilities or pick corresponding dialogue responses.
We recommend a Hunter deck that primarily focuses on either Light or Dark (don’t equip cards of both affinities at the same time). This is mostly to speed up the acquisition of points for a particular alignment.
Upon hitting certain alignment values, you'll receive a unique outfit and legendary card. Once you’ve acquired these rewards, you can use cards or pick responses for the other alignment to get another set of goodies.
Unlock game-changing ability upgrades and mods
One of the coolest features in Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a method that allows you to upgrade and add mods to your abilities. The upgrade mechanic combines two unequipped cards, turning them into a stronger variant with a fixed effect. Mods, meanwhile, can be applied from a randomized selection pool.
These have major implications on how you approach combat, since you can maximize the perks of each card. For example, Doctor Strange’s Blessing of the Vishanti, once upgraded, gives +50% offense to all cards in your hand for the rest of the mission. This effect applies to multi-hit abilities, too. If you’re lucky enough to roll a “Free” mod, then it negates Blessing of the Vishanti’s card play cost.
Have a fully functional Abbey
As you progress and bring various characters along for missions, you unlock numerous functions and structures for the Forge in the Abbey. These include:
- A means of crafting and rerolling cards.
- Workbenches that let you craft consumable items.
- A T.H.R.E.A.T. Room where you can practice heroes’ skills.
- The S.H.I.E.L.D. Exchange, where you buy blueprints, gloss, or gamma coils.
- Mission-based challenges and changeable difficulty/leaders.
Marvel superheroes can become the Hunter’s best buddies. You can do this via the Friendship XP feature, which entails inviting them to hangouts and havens, as well as giving them gifts.

Each teammate has their own preferred activity location, and gifts that they love, like, or dislike. A common theme is that a hero is guaranteed to love a gift that is related to them in some way, such as the comic book issue where they first appeared, or an object that reminds them of their origin.
For example, Scarlet Witch prefers deep conversations, meditating, and reading by the fire. She also loves the X-Men #4 comic, since that’s the first time that the group squared off against the Brotherhood of Mutants, as well as Music Box (On the Slopes of Wundagore) because of her homeland.
Complete all legendary challenges
Reaching Friendship level five with a hero unlocks their own challenge scenario in the Armory. These missions are similar to puzzles since you’re only given a limited number of cards and you must use the right actions on the correct targets. If you succeed, you’ll receive that hero’s legendary card and legendary Midnight Suns outfit.
Obtain classic and alternate costumes
Speaking of outfits, another cool feature in Marvel’s Midnight Suns is that you can unlock several kinds of casual wear and combat costumes for your teammates. Some are obtained as you progress through the game, while others are considered premium skins.
Some of these skins are callbacks to key moments in comic books. For example, Spider-Man can wear the Symbiote Suit with different kinds of color palettes (including a red one that’s more akin to Carnage). Hulk, meanwhile, has the Maestro skin, a reference to an evil version that carries the trophies of defeated Avengers.
We also recommend using the “Change Daily Outfits” option. This randomly switches a character’s attire and color palette from those that you’ve already unlocked.

Gain access to secret areas in the Abbey Grounds
Marvel’s Midnight Suns has you exploring areas in the Abbey Grounds, each with its own puzzle or secret:
- Words of Power grant unique abilities, such as revealing hidden pathways or breaking through destructible walls.
- There are puzzles where you have to obtain Elemental Rods, Moon Seals, and Stained Soil.
- The Standing Stones puzzle has you looking for runic glyphs, which eventually cause three legendary chests to appear.
- Treasure chests of different rarities can be found in the Abbey and Abbey Grounds. Many can be reopened after enough days have passed in-game.
- Take note if you hear bells ringing at the start of each day. That’s a sign that you can climb up the Chapel’s bell tower, which has a reward waiting for you.
- Getting all Caretaker’s Journal Pages lets you exchange gloss for credits (and vice versa) using Agatha’s Cauldron.
- Acquiring all 22 Tarot Card collectibles nets you a unique combat outfit and passive perk.
There’s an even more mysterious pet aside from the Hunter’s hellhound Charlie. It’s none other than Agatha Harkness’ cat Ebony.
Ebony can sometimes appear in certain areas in the Abbey and Abbey Grounds including the Library, Chapel, Hunter’s Folly, Agatha’s Altar, Whispering Wood, and Standing Stones. Unlike Charlie, Ebony’s icon won’t automatically appear on your map unless you’re near her location and you hear her meowing. Petting Ebony provides nifty effects, like healing all injured characters, leveling up your entire party, and granting boosts to your stats.
Recruit DLC heroes as part of your squad
Apart from 13 heroes available by default, you may also recruit Deadpool, Venom, Morbius, and Storm if you own their respective DLCs. Alternatively, you can get the Season Pass, which gives you access to all four DLC heroes.
DLC characters have their own story arc with three missions each. Naturally, you can make use of their ability cards and increase your Friendship levels with them. There’s even a secret mission at the end once you’ve completed all four arcs.
Create comic book-style photos
Last but not least, we encourage you to make use of the game’s Photo Mode feature. You can do this by pressing the “P” button while in the Abbey/Abbey Grounds, or by holding P while in combat.
Photo Mode lets you change character poses and expressions, add various kinds of text (e.g. title, stinger, and speech bubbles), and apply filters. In a way, you can create your own custom comic book covers.
These are just some of the coolest things you can do in Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Those who are eager to team up with their favorite superheroes can pick up the game, which is available now on the Epic Games Store. There’s also the Legendary Edition, which includes the base game, Season Pass (all four DLC characters), and 23 premium skins.
