The MIX Summer Game Showcase kicked off the 2025 Summer Game Fest season with a steady stream of independent games.

A group of indie game developers and enthusiasts founded the MIX (a.k.a. the Media Indie Exchange) in 2012, and its livestream was known as the Guerrilla Collective Online Showcase from 2020-2024. There’s also an in-person MIX showcase at Los Angeles’ Grammy Museum Rooftop, and we'll be there later this week to go hands-on with some of the games featured in the presentation.

In our MIX Summer Game Showcase 2025 roundup, we’ll take you on a tour of the biggest news and announcements for Epic Games Store users. Be sure to check out our Summer Game Fest landing page on the Epic Games Store, and follow along on our news page for all the biggest reveals, interviews, and hands-on impressions with some of the biggest games from the biggest gaming week of the summer.

The Last Caretaker

Developer Channel37 Ltd’s first-person survival shooter puts players in the mind of a robot, awoken after centuries of sleep and tasked with sailing the oceans in hopes of rebuilding the Earth.

During the MIX Summer Game Showcase, a short, musical trailer gave us a look at what the end of the world looks like from ocean-bound oil rigs and decrepit ships. We got a few brief glimpses at the round robot protagonist, at one point shooting its way across a rusted metal island. Looming in the background was a mysterious rocket ship that took to the heavens at the end.

Spirit of the North 2

Spirit of the North 2 is a third-person adventure game from the developers at Infuse Studio, who’ve created a beautiful, ancient world you explore...as a fox.

Infuse Studio used its MIX Summer Game Showcase 2025 trailer to show off how it revamped the original Spirit of the North’s controls and made movement more fluid and fox-like. The team started essentially from scratch and incorporated player feedback—but the big breakthrough moment came when it took inspiration from a kite, where the head leads and the body follows. Spirit of the North 2 also revamped the fox's jumping skills, implementing a technically complex but intuitive system that balances freeform movement and targeted leaps. Overall, these changes should make Spirit of the North 2 a lot more fun to run around and explore.

POPUCOM

POPUCOM is a multiplayer platformer from the developers at Hypergryph that puts a heavy emphasis on colors and co-op gameplay.

At The MIX Summer Game Showcase, we saw plenty of POPUCOM’s puzzle-solving, boss-fighting action. The colorful trailer also focused on special items like a deployable wall that serves as both a way over obstacles and a shield. POPUCOM’s minigames were also on display, harkening back to the era of classic arcade and Atari games. It was all about gameplay variety, from platforming to combat to cooperation.

You can pick up POPUCOM in the Epic Games Store right now—and before you play, check out our POPUCOM guide, which is filled with tips to help you and your co-op buddies succeed.

Football Heroes League

Developer Run Games’ multiplayer soccer game gives footballers superhuman powers in online matches where real players control every person on the pitch, whether playing 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 matches.

The superheroes took the field during the MIX Summer Game Showcase 2025, kicking, sliding, and even flying across the pitch in feats of fast-paced action. The maps are small, the games are rapid, and the shooting and passing are bombastic in this exciting arcade football game.

You can play Football Heroes League for free right now via the Epic Games Store.

Shrine's Legacy

Shrine's Legacy is Positive Concept Games’ ode to 16-bit SNES role-playing games, and stars two protagonists on a quest to save the world.

During the Mix Summer Game Showcase 2025, Shrine's Legacy and its dual protagonists explored dungeons, took a minecart ride, and fought off enemies while collecting treasure and tackling bosses. From beginning to end, it evoked not just the look but the feel of a classic era of console games.
