Summer is video game hype season. It’s been this way for decades, and 2025 keeps the tradition alive. June will be overstuffed with trailers, release dates, announcements, world premieres, and more than a few surprises.

In the Epic Games Store’s guide to summer 2025 gaming events, we’ll tell you what’s happening, when it’s happening, how to watch, and what to expect. Summer Game Fest

Summer Game Fest (a.k.a. SGF) is a celebration of video games and their creators, big and small. What began as an adjunct to E3 has become the unofficial successor to the dearly departed industry event. It’s the place where everyone gathers to see what’s coming out now, soon, and even much further in the future.

SGF 2025 begins with a live broadcast from the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on June 6. Like the E3 of old, it serves as a platform-agnostic kickoff for the rest of the summer's video game events.

Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition

June 6 immediately following the SGF Showcase (scheduled for 7 PM EDT / 4 PM PDT)

Day of the Devs was founded in 2012 by Double Fine Productions and iam8bit as a celebration and showcase of independent games and the people who make them.
 
You may know Double Fine from such games as Costume Quest, a Halloween-themed game that you can finish in a single day. Epic Games Store contributor, Juno Stump, described it as “delightful and atmospheric from start to finish,” Its sequel, Costume Quest 2, contains even more spooky fun.

Day of the Devs’ other founder is iam8bit, which describes itself as a “creative production emporium.” The folks there regularly collaborate with game-makers to release high-quality items like vinyl video game soundtracks and even host art installations. In the last few years, iam8bit also became a video game publisher with Escape Academy, a game that “captures all the fun of real-life escape rooms” according to EGS contributor Steven Nguyen Scaife, as well as that game’s DLC, Escape From Anti-Escape Island and Escape From the Past. And speaking of the past, ‘80s kids will get a kick out of the iam8bit-published Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the Quest for the Stale Gum.

MIX Summer Game Showcase

June 3–6

The MIX Summer Game Showcase 2025 (previously known as the Guerrilla Collective from 2020–2024) is a three-day event that continues to promote video games online and in-person.

The MIX Summer Game Showcase’s online presentation takes place on June 3, 2025 at 12 PM EDT / 9 AM PDT. The onsite showcase happens in Los Angeles at the Grammy Museum Rooftop on June 6, 2025 at 8PM EDT / 5 PM PDT.

Games that appeared in previous shows include Aerial_Knight's We Never Yield (a parkour action game with a thrusting, beat-focused soundtrack), Selfloss (an adventure game infused with Icelandic and Slavik folklore), and Spirit of the North 2 (an exploration game where you play as a fox on a quest to restore lost guardians in lush environments).

Future Games Show Summer Showcase

June 7 @ 4 PM EDT / 1 PM PDT

GamesRadar’s summer video game showcase returns with Laura Bailey (who voiced Abby Anderson in developer Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II) and Matthew Mercer (who voiced Vincent Valentine in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth) at the helm.

Organizers are teasing more than 45 games during the 90-minute show, plus an additional 20+ games in the FGS Live From Los Angeles broadcast immediately following.

Last year’s show was full of games, including Bogdan's Cross (think animals dressed as Templar knights), Diabotical Rogue (a first-person shooter with roguelike elements), First Dwarf (engineer dwarves in mechs on floating islands), Once Human (meta-humans high on a mysterious substance called Stardust), Starvaders (a cross between Slay the Spire, Into the Breach, and Space Invaders), The Precinct (a “love letter to classic cop movies” and ‘80s-themed neon-noir), and much more.

Wholesome Games Direct

June 7 @ 12 PM EDT / 9 AM PDT

Wholesome Direct’s organizers describe it best as a “vibrant lineup of artistic, uplifting, and emotionally resonant games from developers of all sizes from around the world.”

Previous Wholesome Directs showcased games like the open-world farming adventure Lightyear Frontier and Mail Time, a game that Epic Games Store contributor Sarah Thwaites described as a “cottagecore dream.”

Women-Led Games

June 7 @ 1 PM EDT / 10 AM PDT

This showcase is all about games and studios where women make up the majority of the development team and are in positions of power. “Women don’t need to ask for a seat at the table,” the official site says. “We’re creating the spaces we want to see.”

Previous events included games like Skyreach Studio’s Critter Crops (an isometric role-playing and management game that follows a girl banished for practicing magic), RainyGames’ SunnySide (a farming simulator set in the Japanese countryside), and Top Hat Studios’ Ova Magica, a game its creators describe as Stardew Valley meets Pokémon.

Latin American Games Showcase

June 7 @ 2 PM EDT / 11 AM PDT

The Latin American Games Showcase exists to increase the visibility of games developed in the LATAM region from Mexico down through Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and other South American countries.

Previous showcases included games like Halberd Studios’ anime-inspired 9 Years of Shadows (Halberd’s action platformer, Mariachi Legends, is also headed to the Epic Games Store), Wired Dreams Studio’s dog-rescuing roguelike bullet-hell platformer FROGUE (check out their other games like Raven's Hike, Red Ronin, Undergrave, and Upaon: A Snake's Journey too), and BEHEMUTT’s factory-building sim Nova Lands (the full-length follow-up to Nova Lands: Emilia's Mission).

Southeast Asian Games Showcase

June 7 @ 3 PM EDT / 12 PM PDT

The Southeast Asian Games Showcase is shining a spotlight on developers and studios that are based in Southeast Asia or identify as SEAsian, which includes Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore.

Green Games Showcase

June 7 @ 4 PM EDT / 1 PM PDT

The first-ever Green Games Showcase will spotlight the video game industry's growing commitment to the environment. The show will be hosted by game journalist Will Freeman and Sir Ian Livingstone CBE. The show will spotlight a curated selection of games that include some form of environmental engagement and include a Q&A about how games can inspire meaningful climate action and drive real-world impact.

Frosty Games Fest Showcase

June 7 @ 7 PM EDT / 4 PM PDT

The first-ever Frosty Games Fest Showcase celebrates all things video game made in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.  Why is it called the Frost Games Fest? Because it's cold there! North America's summer is Oceana's winter. And now you know about a new game showcase and have a fun fact to tell everyone.

Xbox Games Showcase

June 8 @ 1 PM EDT / 10 AM PDT

The annual Xbox Games Showcase is a hype train for the brand, highlighting games on Microsoft’s consoles, Windows PCs, and beyond. You can expect announcements from Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios, as well as third-party studios.

Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds 2 (follow-up to 2019's The Outer Worlds) will get its own presentation immediately after the Xbox Games Showcase.

Microsoft’s video gaming empire encompasses many studios and franchises. Bethesda’s catalog alone includes Fallout 4 (a game that’s as great today as it was when it released in 2015), The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (which gives players reasons to return year after year), and The Elder Scrolls Online (which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary). Our interview with Matt Firor and Rich Lambert tells the story of how ESO stumbled, adjusted, survived, and ultimately thrived.

PC Gaming Show

June 8 @ 3 PM EDT / 12 PM PDT

The PC Gaming Show 2025 boasts appearances from more than 50 games slated to come to (where else?) the PC. Details are scant as usual, but past shows have included a pretty broad range of indie and not-so-indie announcements, world premieres, and developer interviews.

Last year’s show—the 10th anniversary of the PC Gaming Show—included Among The Wild (first-person farming), Killing Floor 3 (gory co-op shooting), Mars Tactics (Martian turn-based combat), Steel Seed (sci-fi stealth and action), and many more. Tribeca Games Gallery

June 11-15

Most of the summer games action happens in and around Los Angeles, but the Tribeca Games Gallery is a notable exception. It’s based in New York and part of the larger Tribeca Festival. For the fifth time, video games are part of the event’s official selections, and the winner will receive a Tribeca Games Award.

A slate of games will be playable at Pier 57, and previous selections include Furniture & Mattress’ Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure and Coal Supper’s Thank Goodness You're Here!, which its creators describe as an “absurd comedy slapformer.” For more on the latter, check out our interview with the developers to learn how schoolfriends-turned-indie-devs Will Todd and James Carbutt created the game.

 

IGN Live

June 7-8

Just as it did last year, IGN’s summer event will focus on video games amid the wider entertainment ecosystem, including comics, movies, and TV. There’s a live component with demos and more taking place at Magic Box @ The Reef in downtown Los Angeles. Tickets are available on the event’s official site. There will also be plenty to stream and watch from the comfort of your own home throughout the two-day event.

Last year’s event featured interviews with the creators of many games, including panels with folks from Gearbox Software (developer of Borderlands 2, Borderlands 3, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and the upcoming Borderlands 4), plus interviews with those behind Tetris Effect: Connected, Sonic Superstars, Sonic Origins Plus, Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Mania, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
