Gamescom 2023 round-up: From Alan Wake to Warhammer

But don’t worry if you missed the kick-off show by Geoff Keighley or the stream of content coming out of IGN. We’ve got you covered, so check out our below list of some of the biggest games coming to the Epic Games Store.
At the top of the list (alphabetically) is the long-awaited Alan Wake 2, which included a slick new trailer. But there’s tons more to check out, including news and views of Black Myth: Wukong, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Sonic Superstars, Killing Floor 3, and Mortal Kombat 1. We could just go on and on, but it's better that you use this time to dive into the Gamescom 2023 round-up below.
Alan Wake 2
Remedy Entertainment’s long-awaited sequel to their 2010 classic Alan Wake received a new gameplay trailer at the show. You can get the downlown of everything we learned about the upcoming game right here. Alan Wake 2 is due out Oct. 27, but you can wishlist it now.
Alaskan Road Truckers
A new gameplay trailer for Green Man Gaming Publishing’s “definitive trucker simulator” dropped during the show. Alaskan Road Truckers is due out Oct. 18.
Assassin’s Creed: Mirage
Set in 9th century Baghdad, Assassin’s Creed Mirage got some facetime at Gamescom, including a first look at the city of Baghdad, along with the game’s full Arabic voiceover. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is due out Oct. 5, but you can wishlist it today on the Epic Games Store.
Black Myth: Wukong
Ever since showing off some stunning video of pre-alpha gameplay back in 2020, players have been thirsting to learn more about Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong. We got a chance to go hands on with the action role-playing game, which is based on the 16th century Chinese novel Journey to the West, and we were impressed with what we saw. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC
Due out on Sept. 26, the much-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion arrives alongside the Update 2.0 for the game. In a new video dropped during the show, we get a better sense of not only what will be coming in the expansion, but some of the major work being done to the base game with the latest update. There’s a lot going on in the video below, so maybe give it a few spins. You can pre-purchase the DLC on Epic Games Store now.
Eternights
Dating action game Eternights got a trailer announcing the game's release date of Sept. 12. If you somehow missed this colorful mash-up by Studio Sai, Eternights is a dating action game where you’re trying to make the most out of your romantic life during the apocalypse. You can pre-purchase the game on the Epic Games Store now.
Fae Farm
Phoenix Labs debuted the launch trailer for the upcoming magic-infused cozy farm sim Fae Farm. The studio also revealed that the game’s purchase will include the first two post-launch content packs for the game, which are expected to release between Dec. 2023 and June 2024. You can pre-purchase Fae Farm, which releases on Sept. 8, on Epic Games Store now.
Fort Solis
Fallen Leaf’s creepy Martian adventure game launched during Gamescom. It also released its launch trailer during the kick-off show. The game tells the story of your attempts to solve what happened on this seemingly abandoned remote mining base on Mars. The story is told across four chapters. You can pick up the game on the Epic Games Store now.
Ghostrunner 2
A new Ghostrunner 2 pre-order trailer hit during the show, highlighting the action-packed fight against the violent AI cult leading the assault on Dharma Tower. The trailer features new gameplay, including high-powered motorcycle combat, a host of mind-bending enemies, and battles that Jack will face off against later this year. Ghostrunner 2 launches on Oct. 26 and you can pre-order the game on Epic Games Store now. The Brutal edition comes with 48-hour early access and bonus features.
Hexxen: Hunters
Developers Ulisses Spiele Digital and publisher Hooded Horse announced its dark fantasy tactical RPG Hexxen: Hunters. In the turn-based game, players lead a party of 18th century hunters against the forces of hell in the Black Forest of southern Germany. You can wishlist the game, which is due out next year on the Epic Games Store.
Homeworld 3
We went hands on with real-time strategy space combat game Homeworld 3’s newly announced War Games mode at Gamescom. Check out our thoughts on the mode, which has three players squad up to complete a trio of back-to-back missions. The Blackbird Interactive-developed game hits Epic Games Store in February. You can wishlist it now.
Killing Floor 3
The highly-anticipated third entry in Tripwire Interactive's beloved co-op shooter series dropped a dystopian reveal trailer at Gamescom that's absolutely soaked in grisly body horror. Killing Floor 3's new direction hearkens back to the series' roots in sci-fi horror while also blending in some exciting new elements inspired by Hollywood creature features.
The trailer shows off the game’s dark near-future where megacorp Horzine has begun assembling their trademark organic bioweapons: the Zeds. It also included a detailed look at the horrific assembly of the iconic Fleshpound Zed variant. The whole thing wraps up with a sizzle reel of early gameplay from the intense first-person shooter that casts you as a Nightfall specialist joining forces with up to five teammates. Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria
We got a chance to see a half-hour of gameplay from The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria during Gamescom. Writer Laura Kate Dale came away from the experience with the feeling that the survival crafting game is so much more than that genre might lead you to expect. In The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, players embark on a new adventure as dwarves who dig and fight their way to reclaim the legendary home of Moria beneath the Misty Mountains. You can pre-purchase the game on Epic Games Store now. It’s due out on Oct. 24.
Lords of the Fallen
Upcoming dark fantasy action-RPG Lords of the Fallen dropped an extended story trailer during the show, giving us a better look at just how dark the game will be when it hits on Oct. 13. If you’re still not sure about the game, make sure you read about our hands-on time with it earlier this year. You can pre-purchase the game now on Epic Games Store.
Menace
Overhype Studios revealed their upcoming turn-based strategy game Menace. In the game, due out next year, players lead a warband of misfits against an alien threat. You’ll travel from planet to planet, fielding infantry, tanks, and mechs for procedurally generated multi-mission operations and battle maps. You can wishlist Menace now on the Epic Games Store.
Mortal Kombat 1
We got our first look at two new fighters during Gamescom’s opening night event. The trailer shows General Shao in action, but more importantly we got to see Sindel, Queen of Outworld, deliver a series of hair-raising, hair-based fatalities. Mortal Kombat 1 hits Epic Games Store on Sept. 19. You can pre-purchase it now.
Nightingale
We dropped into a deep hands-off demo of Nightingale at Gamescom and came away impressed with how the game combines Victorian guns, magic portals and gigantic beasts to deliver co-op card crafting chaos. You can read about the experience here.
Nightingale is a first-person, player-versus-environment open-world survival crafting game that you can play with your friends or on your own. There’s a lot going on in the game and all of it looks amazing. You can wishlist Nightingale now on Epic Games Store.
Payday 3
During Gamescom, we learned that Ice-T will be making an appearance in the popular co-op heist shooter. We also got a look at a new trailer and a wonderful little live-action film. Starbreeze’s Payday 3 is due out on Sept. 21 and you can pre-purchase it now on the Epic Games Store.
Sonic Superstars
A new trailer for Sonic Superstars shows off the game’s four-player co-op and online battle mode. More importantly, we learned that the game hits on Oct. 17. We also had a chance to go hands on with the game, which you can read about right here. Sonic Superstars is available for pre-purchase on Epic Games Store now.
SPRAWL
Developer MAETH’s hardcore retro first-person shooter SPRAWL went live during Gamescom, along with a new trailer. The game has players take on the militarized government of the titular sprawl. You can purchase the game now on Epic Games Store.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl
We went hands on with the instantly punishing 15-minute demo for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl at Gamescom. Check out what we thought of the game’s brutality and bleak, barren world. You can wishlist the game now on Epic Games Store.
SYNCED
NExT Studio announced that its free-to-play co-op shooter hits on Sept. 8. The game has you choose a runner and pair up with a tamed enemy Nano as you venture across the collapsed world in player-versus-environment and player-versus-player combat. You can wishlist the game on Epic Games Store now.
The Crew Motorfest
We went hands on with Ubisoft’s upcoming action racing game The Crew Motorfest. Read how the game surprised our writer with its creative take on the genre, environment and gameplay. The Crew Motorfest hits Epic Games Store on Sept. 14.
The Invincible
Starward Industries dropped a release date and new trailer for its upcoming game based on a masterful piece of hard science fiction written by famed Polish author Stanisław Lem. The Invincible (which is the name of the book and the game) is due out on Nov. 6 and you can wishlist it now on Epic Games Store.
The Thaumaturge
The Thaumaturge, a story-driven role-playing game by developer Fool’s Theory, got a new story trailer during Gamescom. The 11 bit-published game, which is set in Warsaw in 1905, is available to wishlist now on Epic Games Store.
Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin
Frontier Developments showed off the Nighthaunt faction and Conquest mode for Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin during its time at Gamescom. You can check out a bit of both in the new trailer below. You can pre-purchase Realms of Ruin now on the Epic Games Store. The game is due out on Nov. 17.
